Advocacy
At RAMJO we aim to provide regional leadership for the joint organisation area and to be an advocate for strategic regional priorities.
We strive to influence policy and decision making by giving a regional voice to the challenges we face.
RAMJO members and staff are solutions focused, because we live in our communities we deeply understand the challenges, we know what is likely to work and what is needed.
We collaborate in the development of position papers and various submissions to Parliamentary standing committees, inquiry’s and reviews.
RAMJO champion a whole of Government approach, often acting as a conduit between state agencies.
Strategy
RAMJO undertook a strategic refresh in 2024-2025 which included revising the vision, values, value proposition, and operating principles to reflect the aspirations, strengths, and expectations of its member councils.
Community Demographics
The Riverina and Murray Region covers 94,196 square kms with an estimated Resident Population as of 30 June 2025 of 165,603, a population density of 1.76 persons per square km.
The Riverina and Murray Joint Organisation Community Profile provides demographic analysis for the Region and its suburbs based on results from the 2021, 2016, 2011, 2006, 2001, 1996 and 1991 Censuses of Population and Housing.
The profile is updated with population estimates when the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) releases new figures.
Economic Statistics
The Riverina and Murray Joint Organisation’s Gross Regional Product is estimated at over $12 billion, which represents just over 1.5% of the state’s GSP (Gross State Product).
Locally, jobs are estimated to be 84,020 with 84,169 residents in the region employed. The largest industry by employment numbers is Health Care and Social Assistance employing almost 15% of employed residents, yet the largest number of businesses by industry is Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing comprising 25% of all businesses.
